If you’re planning to make the most of the warm spring and summer weather and are heading on a road trip soon, we’ve got 9 Road Trip Hacks to help you return with lots of fond memories and your sanity in tact.
1. MULTI-PORT CHARGER
If you’ve got a car full of people, you’ve probably got a car full of devices that need to be charged. Get yourself a multi-port adapter and keep everyone entertained all trip long. This doozy from JB HI FI means no one will ever miss out on a precious charging spot https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/accessories/xcd/xcd-7-port-usb-3-0-hub/560543/
2. FROZEN WATER BOTTLE
Freeze a water bottle the night before you head off and use it to keep your snacks or lunch cool. Make sure you leave a bit of space in the bottle so the lid doesn’t pop off! The water will melt throughout the trip and you’ll have nice, cool water, even in the heat of the day. A particularly great idea if you’re heading to the beach.
3. RUBBISH BIN
There’s nothing worse than arriving home to rubbish strewn throughout the car, or wayward rubbish flying out the window when you’re driving with windows down. Use a plastic bag in a cereal container with a lid for a portable and spill proof option.
4. WET WIPES
Wet wipes have a multitude of uses, from cleaning sticky fingers to attending to coffee spills or removing mud off shoes. You’ll be sorry if don’t take them!
5. DIRECTIONS
If you’re relying on your phone for directions it’s a good idea to print out a map, or keep a fold out map in your car just in case you lose reception or your phone malfunctions. You don’t want to be stuck not knowing where you are when you’re out exploring!
6. MUSIC
A road trip is not a road trip without a good playlist. Spend some time putting together a great one before you head off. If you’ve got a car full of passengers ask them for their favourite songs to add to the list. If you’ve got young kids, do so at your own risk of ‘Baby Shark’ on repeat. You could play a game on the drive by shuffling the playlist and having everyone take a guess at which song is up next, or which song will be last. Prizes are encouraged!
7. EXPLORE
Don’t make your road trip about getting from A to B, but work in time to see the sights and explore new areas. Plan some stops before you head off, but be open to stopping or detouring now and then when you see an interesting place or park or store.
8. CAR SERVICE
Don’t drive any kind of long distance without ensuring your car has had its regular service, and if it’s not due for a service still make sure you check the water and oil levels and ensure there is plenty of water for your windscreen wipers – those pesky bug splatters will probably need removing mid-highway.
9. CAR CLEANING
There’s nothing better than the feeling of a clean car so ensure you’ve had the inside and outside of your car cleaned for that fresh and free road trip feeling. On your return you’ll likely need bug splatters removed from the bumper, grill and windscreen, a good clean of dirt and possibly sea-spray from the paint as well as an extra focused vacuum and inside clean.
