WE’RE BEAMING BACK AT STEVE AND HIS KOMBI HENDRIX

If you’ve ever felt ‘that way’ about your car, you’ll know exactly why we’re passionate about helping our customers keep their pride and joy in showroom condition. Recently, we spoke to Steve about his Kombi Hendrix and the special part it’s played in his life.

As soon as Steve saw Hendrix for sale online he knew that he had to make the 1965 Split Screen Kombi his. Ever since then, Hendrix has come to play an important part in the lives of Steve and his family. When Steve knew that the time had come to pop the question, he decided to take his now wife on a road trip up the East coast of Australia. He carefully hid away her engagement ring on top of a spare spark plug in a box of new spark plugs inside the old tool-box and waited patiently for the right moment. As always, Hendrix drew the attention of passers-by and a couple of guys managed to interrupt Steve’s well-planned proposal to tell him how much they loved the van just as he was about to get down on bended knee. Steve was forced to put the proposal on ice and try again later.

Steve’s talks about his favourite features of his beloved van as the ‘safari’ style windscreen, which allows for extra airflow (and lots of bugs in the teeth) in summer and the ‘rock n’ roll’ seat that lays down flat into a bed. Steve alludes to the fact that the ‘rock’n’roll’ bed may or may not have contributed to the conception of his children, laughing that it’s like “a hotel on wheels”. These days Steve regularly takes his family camping in the Kombi. They like to drive wherever the open road takes them and usually end up camping somewhere with an ocean view or in the bush. Steve also uses Hendrix as a mobile cinema to have movie marathons with his young daughter on weekends.

Steve has a dream to upgrade to a larger engine with twin carburetters so that Hendrix would find driving around a bit more relaxing and reliable. He keeps Hendrix turning heads with regular washing and waxing at Magic. Steve is always beaming at us – and we’re beaming back at you Steve.
