Tasmania is absolutely stunning year-round and its distinct seasons make for some unbeatable sights. In our opinion, the best way to take it all in is by car. Travel at your own pace, stopping everywhere that takes your fancy, and discover Tasmania’s world-renowned food, wine, and natural wonders. Not sure where to start? Here are our favourite scenic road trips through beautiful Tasmania.
Southern Edge
Explore the south coast of Tasmania with a journey along the Southern Edge. This is the perfect trip for those who love the water as it will take you along stretches of gorgeous coastline. We recommend beginning your trip at Cockle Creek and if it’s warm enough, taking a dip in the clear, blue water. After you’ve soaked in those unparalleled views, make your way up the coast through Southport, Dover, and Bruny Island. Visit the Cape Bruny Lighthouse, walk the Fluted Cape circuit, and sample as much seafood and local wine as you can fit in – trust us.
Great Eastern Drive
The eastern coast of Tasmania has so much to do and see, including the iconic Wineglass Bay and Bay of Fires. Drive from Hobart to Launceston, taking in coastal views, quaint hinterland towns, and remarkable natural wonders. We suggest you begin your trip in Orford and take the ferry out to Maria Island – you can explore this tiny island on foot or by bicycle, stopping for a dip in the bright blue water when you need to cool off. Further up the coast (plus a short climb up a mountain), you’ll find Wineglass Bay and Swansea, where you can spend the day hiking and the night indulging in world-class food and wine. Finally, make your way up to the Bay of Fires and St Helens to round off your trip.
