Our Commitment to Sustainable Automotive Cleaning
At Magic Hand Carwash, we want to build a sustainable business model that others in the industry can emulate. With the launch of our most eco-friendly store, we want to send a message to the automotive cleaning industry across Australia that we all have the option to become more mindful of the environment. While our industry isn’t typically known for ground-breaking sustainability practices, that’s something we can all help to change. We’re committed to making strides in this area, and we’re making a big start by launching our Balcatta store, complete with solar power and water recycling.
This Balcatta model will serve as the blueprint for future expansions, including our stores across Melbourne and other locations in Perth, Brisbane, and Hobart, ensuring sustainable car washing is available nationwide.
Harnessing Solar Energy: The 60kW System
We knew that when it came to building this eco-friendly store that we wanted to implement solar power. To do this, we adjusted the canopy of the finishing bay so that it could be fitted with a powerful 60kW solar power system. The solar panels actually act as the roof sheet for the canopy, which meant less building materials were needed to cover the bay. These panels also allow natural light to filter through the finishing bay, minimising the need for electrical lighting. It provides both a striking look and the vital energy that our Balcatta location needs to reduce its grid footprint.
Efficient Water Management with 30,000L Recycling
As a carwash, we go through a lot more water than your average business. In our quest to offer sustainable carwash services, we’ve been working to implement water recycling. At our Balcatta location, we’ve installed massive 30,000L underground tanks that become filled with water used in the Auto Wash tunnel. From here, the used water runs through a recycling system where the water is treated. Within the tunnel, the treated water is distributed to specific washing equipment. In doing this, we’re able to offer a unique car wash experience where our customers can get the wash they want while contributing to a sustainably-focused business.
